This painting was commissioned by a client who asked me to paint my interpretation of the Chinese game Mahjong, with his family's pink Mahjong set.

Although Mahjong isn't typically played with a feast on the same table, the game, like food, represents a way for me to connect with my culture and distant family as a 2nd gen Chinese American. This sentiment resonated with my client as well. I featured his favorite dishes on the same spread, merging traditional Chinese dishes and Mahjong, two elements of cultural connection, into a single, evocative snapshot. (I also gave him a winning hand on the left side since that's his favorite part of the game)
